The municipality of Gassin in the Var department is protected under the listed sites of Gassin and its surroundings and Saint-Tropez peninsula. It has been registered since 1963 by the Departmental Commission for Sites, Perspectives, and Landscapes of the Var for its remarkable location as a lookout on the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The commission also wished to acknowledge Gassin's circular rampart that forms a belvedere offering a wide panoramic view of Grimaud, Sainte-Maxime, the bay of Cavalaire, the islands of Port-Cros and Le Levant, and even the Alps.
