A long tradition in glassmaking

The Lalique Museum is also keen to involve the craftsmen of the Lalique factory. An exhibition room is devoted to photographs that explain each stage of the manual crystal-making process. A long glassmaking tradition has existed in the Vosges mountains – Bas Rhin and Moselle – since the 12th century, with the passage of glassmakers from Bohemia. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the glassmakers, then the crystal makers, settled down, founded the high places of the Vosges glass art (Meisenthal, Saint-Louis-Lès-Bitche). If the gestures have remained the same, artists, such as René Lalique, have been able to develop the artistic aspect.
