The houses of Riquewihr follow the Alsatian building tradition. Above the ground level, always made of stone, the floors are half-timbered. Some wealthy winegrowers' homes consist of five or six levels surmounted by a roof of impressive dimensions. The skyscraper house or The Dolder tower, with its five massive floors, are examples of the architectural mastery of Alsatian craftsmen.
