Located in the commune of Sainte-Anne, at the extreme southeast of Martinique, Plage des Salines forms a long strip of blond sand lined with coconut palms. The wooded part of the site extends over a width of 272 ft (83 m) and is part of the coastal state forest managed by the Office National des Forêts (National Forestry Office). It comes from the fifty geometric steps, a legal status that applies in French law to plots of land located on the coast of overseas departments. The coconut palms and other species in this forest were heavily affected by the passage of tropical cyclone Dean in August 2007.
