A long and flexible neck

The greater flamingo (Phœnicopterus roseus) has a very flexible and supple neck. It is made up of nineteen cervical vertebrae - compared to twenty-four in the swan, the animal with the most cervical vertebrae - and can reach 2.9 ft (90 cm) long in some males. More elongated than in the swan, the cervical vertebrae of the flamingo are well marked and appear clearly when its neck is folded.
