The Pollet peninsula (eastern gateway) faces the basin of Dieppe's port on the left bank of the mouth of the Arques. Historically the district of sailors who repaired their boats there, Pollet was divided by a pass leading to a second port in 1848. Its name suggests that it would have been a Venetian trading post on a par with Bruges. From the Middle Ages onwards, the district was teeming with cabarets, artists, and sailors. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was declared a free commune and seat of many local festivals.
