A little developed passage area

The Buëch region is a passage zone between Sisteron and Grenoble via La Croix-Haute pass on the one hand and the Rhône valley and Italy via Montgenèvre pass by the departmental road on the other hand. These two roads intersect south of the upper part of the Grand Buëch valley, near Serres. The mountainous, inaccessible, and undeveloped nature of the region prevents the development of tourism. The population density is very low (14.7 inhabitants / km²), and the activity remains essentially agricultural (sheep breeding).
