A harem of Przewalski horses is made up of a few mares closely linked to their offspring but also emotionally united to each other and of a stallion that brings together and protects the group against aggression and outsider males. The limited number of preferential relationships within the harem contributes to its cohesion over time. The Monts d'Azur reserve has a small harem of four to five individuals and a large harem of around 15 horses, while a third group formed by single males travels the higher parts of the land.
