A lighthouse-shaped minaret

The single minaret of the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha stands at 213 feet (65 metres). Like a lighthouse, it dominates the largest mosque in Qatar, which can accommodate more than 30,000 worshippers inside and out. The central hall for men has a capacity of 11,000, while the women’s hall has a capacity of 1,200. In addition to these prayer spaces, the building houses three libraries, ablution areas, and rooms for memorising the Quran. Religious education is provided throughout the year, and numerous social, educational and cultural programmes are organised. Tourists – including non-Muslims – are welcomed outside prayer times. Of course, they must remove their shoes before entering and wear clothes that cover their whole body.
