A lighthouse above the vines

In addition to a magnificent restored windmill, Verzenay has another original feature, a lighthouse worthy of the Atlantic coast which overlooks a sea of vines! This impressive building can be seen from afar. It was built in 1909 by Joseph Goulet, a wine merchant, to promote his champagne brand. In the evening, the lantern started to turn and lit up the hills of Verzenay. At the foot of the lighthouse, a restaurant and an open-air theatre soon became very successful, but the First World War put an end to the festivities.
