The largest city of Southern France, Marseille covers 150 sq mi (240.62 km²). Surrounded by massifs - the Estaque and Étoile to the north, the Garlaban to the east, the Saint-Cyr and Mont Puget to the south-east, the Marseilleveyre to the south - it is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the west and south. Its population density reaching 5,703 inhabitants/km², Marseille constitutes the second-largest municipality in France (city-center), with 868,277 inhabitants in 2018.
