Made up of limestone layers, the Piolit-Chabrières massif dominates the Lac de Serre-Ponçon from its steep slopes jagged with cliffs. The imposing limestone needles of Chabrières rise to 7,883 ft (2,403 m) above sea level and constitute a veritable belvedere over the lake, the ski resort of Réallon, the Ubaye, the Prealps of Digne, the Dévoluy, and the first summits of the Écrins.
