The volcanic rocks that form the Monts Dore massif in the Puy-de-Dôme department filter 18 sources that all have particular properties. The thermalism of Mont-Dore and La Bourboule has been well known since the Romans. La Bourboule is supplied by the Perrière spring that gives water at 136° F (58° C), while the water of Mont-Dore comes from eight different springs and rises to 111° F (44° C). Rich in iron silica, it takes on an ocher color upon contact with air.
