The Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Côte des Bar constitute the four terroirs of the Champagne appellation. The vineyards of the Montagne de Reims are located around the city of Reims. In the south-south-east of the terroir, on limestone slopes, vines planted with Pinot Noir produce the renowned Champagnes of Bouzy and Ambonnay. Sensitive to spring frosts, Chardonnay is predominant on the east-facing slopes of Trépail and Villers-Marmery, which are well sheltered from the west winds. This white grape variety also enjoys the soils of the Mont de Berru and the Saint-Thierry massif, north of Reims.
