A lake surrounded by small-grained granite

"Lac Blanc" (White lake) formed following the Würm glaciation (around 80,000 to 10,000 years BC). Its soil consists of white sand and gives it its name. The highest mountains of the Vosges are made of granite. As the slopes go down towards the valley, the rock turns into small-grained granite as it reaches the "lac Noir" and the "lac Blanc". This high-altitude lake sits in the Kaysersberg Valley, in the heart of the "Ballons des Vosges" Natural Park.
