The Character Village of Calvados label is awarded by the department and the CAUE (Council for Architecture, Urban Planning, and the Environment) to villages with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants that are remarkable for their architecture and environment. A place of accommodation, a restaurant, and entertainment are among the criteria required to receive the label. Only four villages, including Clécy, have been rewarded in the department. Clécy is surrounded by typical bocage grazed by Norman cows in the best tradition of the region.
