The bay of Badine extends east of the double tombolo of the Giens peninsula in the harbor of Hyères. It stretches from the port of La Capte to the Cap de l'Estérel and offers a safe shelter for ships in mistral weather. The bay also constitutes a strategic military zone equipped, since the 17th century, with defensive constructions such as the coastal batteries of Cap de l'Estérel. Hyères' harbor is a well-known navigation area frequented since Antiquity by the Greeks, as evidenced by the presence of a sanctuary dedicated to Aristaeus, a god associated with pastoral activities.
