The Melanesian hut - from the simple habitat hut to the large clan or district ones - is the symbol of the Kanak social organization. Round shaped, with a steep conical roof, it rises around a central pole (metaphor of the chief) of Montrouziera Cauliflora wood carved with allegorical motifs retracing the history of the clan.
