Two lighthouses mark the entrance to the port of Trouville-sur-Mer. On the east landing stage, the red lighthouse raises an octagonal metallic tower 36 ft (11 m) in height with a range of 12 nautical miles. Built in 1860, it stands at the very end of a wooden jetty mounted on Dukes of Alba. In sailors' vocabulary, a Duke of Alba is made up of pilings (in wood, steel, or cement) deeply anchored in the bottom of a basin or a channel.
