The Baume bridge crosses the Durance at the level of the cluse (cross valley) of Sisteron. This masonry road structure with a semicircular arch is 131 ft (40 m) long, 19.6 ft (6 m) wide, and its unique arch has a span of 91.8 ft (28 m). It was rebuilt in 1945 following Allied bombings. The site used by the Baume bridge is the only one to have allowed the lasting crossing of the Durance between Antiquity and the 19th century.
