The Dewoitine 530 is equipped with a 500 hp Hispano-Suiza engine with 12 V-cylinders. This flagship of the French engine manufacturer also equipped fighter planes. From 1924 to 1929, France set nearly 80 world records (including aircraft and seaplanes), far ahead of the USA. The Hispano-Suiza emblem (a stork with its wings folded) is painted on the fuselage of the D.530. The example on display at the Air and Space Museum at Le Bourget is the personal aircraft of the aerobatic pilot Marcel Doret (1896-1955). Tested in 1978 by the museum’s technicians, the D.530’s engine was still running like clockwork, 23 years after the pilot’s death.
