A heliophilic species
With a robust temperament, spruce (Picea abies) is a rather heliophilic species (i.e. which loves the sun) but which can temporarily tolerate shade in its youth. Very sensitive to fire but very resistant to cold, it can withstand temperatures down to -95 to -104°F (-35 to -40°C) and is not very sensitive to spring frosts due to its late budding.
