A German utopia
Tellure Park extends above a network of mining galleries, some dating from the medieval era. In 1897, the Saint-Jean Engelsbourg mine was under German authority like the rest of the Vosges and Alsace. The Daimler company was convinced of the presence of silver ore under the Erbstollen gallery. A German baron indeed established studies claiming that a vein would lie 32 ft (10 m) below it. The company built a massive ore processing plant in anticipation and dug 656 ft (200 m) deep but never found the supposed silver deposit.
