A geological wonder

From the ridges of the Massif du Sancy, these hikers can see the peaks and domes of the Cantal volcanic massif (contemporary to the Monts Dore) to the South / Southwest and, to the North / Northeast, the volcanoes of the much younger Chaîne des Puys. The volcanoes of the Massif du Sancy were themselves covered with glaciers which flattened their top surfaces, hollowed out radiating valleys and carried important deposits more than 18.6 miles (30 km) away, giving rise to a wonderful geological sight.
