A gentle look and behaviour
It gentle gaze says a lot about its behaviour. Its eyes appear as if made-up in black, edged in white with long eyelashes and well-defined eyebrows. In the Middle Ages, its ancestors were already roaming the small paths of Normandy, and possibly even before that, according to some documents. Its name? The Cotentin donkey (Equus asinus), an animal rooted in Norman tradition. The Domaine d’Esthine is committed to perpetuating its breed and making it better known. Incidentally, donkey’s milk has unsuspected virtues which were already well known in Greco-Roman Antiquity.
