The Ministry of Agriculture officially recognized the Cotentin donkey breed in August 1997. The donkey has taken an increasingly important role in the local recreation industry, especially as green tourism develops in the region. Given its docility and its morphology, it is perfectly suited for hiking and harnessing. Its gentle and calm character also make it a wonderful pet, which can also be used for therapeutic purposes with people with disabilities.
