The Jardin des Méditerranées of the Domaine du Rayol combines landscapes inspired by the regions with a Mediterranean climate. They include the areas located on the western sides of the continents, between latitudes of about 30 and 45 degrees north and south, from southern Australia, to central Chile via southwestern South Africa and California. Characterized by a community of specific plant species, all of these biomes have to cope with common ecological constraints like summer drought, frequent fires, irregular rains, and poor soils.
