Located in the Mediterranean hinterland a few miles north-west of Menton, the village of Sainte-Agnès did not become definitively French until 1861. That year, the municipalities of Menton and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, as well as the surrounding villages, were attached to France following the annexation of the County of Nice to the country. After multiple conflicts in the region, the French flag has flown over the town hall of Sainte-Agnès for 160 years.
