A fortified town of medieval origin
0
0
First mentioned at the end of the 12th century (1190), the fortified town of Gassin reached its current configuration in the 19th century. The castle tower, the Saracens gate, the fort, and Tasco Street still testify to its medieval past. The village first spread within the courtyard of the castle of the lords of Gassin and later in the suburbs. The local habitat remained perched for a long time due to the insecurity (Saracens' raids, pirates' lootings) that reigned over Saint-Tropez Peninsula for centuries.
