The large patrician villa of the Domaine du Rayol - now transformed into the Hôtel de la Mer - was built at the beginning of the 19th century on the western promontory of the estate, near the entrances to the property, the road accesses, and the railway line. The sloping ground has been converted into two median areas in order to supply a sufficient surface for the clearances necessary for the circulation of vehicles while optimizing the view on the sea and the park. Since then, the majestic villa has been joined by the urbanization of the municipality of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer.
