A Flamboyant masterpiece

Saint Stephen Cathedral's management belongs to the diocese of Metz. Its construction started in 1220 and spread over three centuries. Despite numerous reworkings throughout its history, the monument's Gothic identity persisted. With its many buttresses, it marked the culmination of Flamboyant Gothic. They allowed the construction of thinner walls and their adornment with numerous windows, covered with medieval and modern stained glass. Saint Stephen's glazed surface is the largest among European cathedrals.
