The Regional Observatory for Fauna-Flora Balance was created in 2000-2001. It aims to monitor the current state of the balance between the forest and its animal species. It would allow these environments, where agriculture, forestry, and hunting coexist, to ensure a sustainable management policy. This plan includes the monitoring of preys removals and an abundance, weight, and damage index. Ribeauvillé-Haut Koenigsbourg is among the massifs most affected by the fauna-flora imbalance in Alsace.
