Brigitte Pieau has settled down with around twenty Cotentin donkeys (Equus asinus) at Carolles (Manche). These little donkeys, renowned for their endurance and gentle demeanour, have always crossed the paths of Normandy, but the mechanisation of agriculture had almost made them disappear. She therefore contributes to the maintenance and development of the breed, and at the same time raises awareness for it to the general public. She has also established a partnership with the ‘Conservatoire du littoral’ (French Coastal Protection Agency) so that her donkeys maintain the small paths of the bocage left to deteriorate
