A Far West landscape

"Colorado Provençal" is an open-air ocher quarry located not far from Apt, near the village of Rustrel, at the foot of the Albion plateau. It forms a unique enclave of Far West landscape in a region dedicated to wine-growing. The area owes its name to Pierre Martel (1923-2001), a clergyman, researcher, and writer, founder in 1953 of the "Alpes de Lumière" association and contributor to the GR6 hiking route linking Aquitaine to the French Alps via the Luberon region.
