A family business for four generations

The last active ocher quarry in the Luberon region is located in Gargas, in the heart of the Luberon Regional Nature Park, and is part of its heritage. It is operated by a four-generation family business that transforms ocher ore into pure ocher and perpetuates the local ocher industry. Weakened in the middle of the 20th century by the crisis and the loss of interest in natural pigments, the quarry was saved in the 1970s by its reorientation towards new outlets. It has since obtained the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, which rewards the excellence of French know-how.
