In the middle of the 20th century, the ocher trade was weakened by the arrival of new products on the market, which led to the massive closure of factories. The Société des Ocres de France - founded in 1901 - was then saved from bankruptcy in 1974 by Gilbert Guigou, a recently retired Aptésian masonry contractor who relaunched the production and found new outlets for ocher in the construction industry. His sons Jean-Paul and André in 1985, later his grandchildren Brice, Stéphanie, and Pascal, and even his great-granddaughter Ludivine in 2019 joined him in the family business.
