A face neglected by artists

This snapshot, taken at dawn, gives pride of place to the westernmost part of the southern side of the Sainte-Victoire mountain which stretches on 11 miles (18 km) from west to east. If the mountain is now famous throughout the world thanks to the 44 oil canvases and 43 watercolors it inspired Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), rare are the representations focused on the south face, except for a few canvases painted from Gardanne. Cézanne always favored its west face and never represented the Croix de Provence that stands out on the horizon.
