A dramatic decline
In the early 20th century, the cheetah's range spread from all over Africa to India, through Middle-East and Central Asia. About 100 000 cheetahs were roaming these territories. Today, they are about a hundred individuals in Iran, and about 7500 distributed over the African continent, especially in national parks and natural reserves.
