Since the 1960s, vines have become the main crop in and around the Dentelles de Montmirail massif in the Vaucluse department. Already installed in the plain, the vineyard has developed on lands formerly occupied by olive groves and orchards of cherry and apricot trees planted on the slopes and terraces. Almost all of the farms (90%) are dedicated to wine-growing today, and 81% of their terroirs are listed as AOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) under the Beaumes-de-Venise, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras designations.
