The Ribeauvillé forest extends near Riquewihr, in the Vosges Piedmont. It is filled with ravines little-exploited because hard to access. The forest is home to rare vegetal species such as the oval-leaved Amelanchier, with abundant white flowers. Around 2,620 ft (800 m) above sea level begins a wooded area typical of the Vosges mountains. Bilberries and callunas grow at the feet of spruces, firs, and beeches. On these heights, oaks also alternate with Douglas pines and chestnut trees.
