The Var locality of La Londe-les-Maures obtained in May 2008 the terroir AOC/PDO designation of Côtes de Provence - La Londe issued by the National Institute of Designations of Origin. This denomination, which designates the wines located to the southwest of the Maures Massif in the coastal zone, concerns more than twenty private and cooperative cellars in the municipalities of La Londe-les-Maures, Bormes-les-Mimosas, La Crau, and Hyères. The territory of the designation extends over a potential area of 1,015 acres (411 ha) made up of four main types of soil. Its vines either grow on stony and shallow phyllades, colluvial sloping soils on more or less stony phyllades, colluvial soils from areas of collapse, or soils from old alluvium with quartzites, sandstones, and phyllades.
