The controlled designation of origin 'Bois du Jura' covers 280,000 hectares of forest located at an altitude of more than 1,640 feet (500 meters), therefore in the highest areas of the departments of Doubs, Jura and Ain. It concerns the processing of logs (pieces of wood formed from a trunk or a portion of trunk, not squared and generally covered with their bark) and potentially benefits 140 sawmills producing 900,000 cubic meters per year.
