The Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) is an ectotherm whose body temperature is neither constant nor produced by its own organism but variable and modeled on the temperature of the external environment. It, therefore, regulates its temperature (thermoregulation) by warming itself in the sunrays until it reaches the internal temperature of 77 to 86°F (25 to 30°C). This range is necessary for the good functioning of its vital feeding and reproduction activities.
