A cursed lake

"Lac Blanc" is a high-altitude lake sitting in the Kaysersberg Valley, in the heart of the "Ballons des Vosges" Natural Park. Its soil consists of white sand, and a legend explains the origin of this color. The White lake was cursed. Nothing was growing on its banks, and the plague was raging in the valley. To appease the anger of the lake, the inhabitants decided to sacrifice the innocent soul of a child. An eagle seized the son of Lord Pflixbourg, a notorious robber, and dropped him into the water. From that day on, the lake recovered its purity, and the bandit, in despair, abandoned his evil inclinations.
