On 20 October 2014, French President François Hollande inaugurated the Louis Vuitton Foundation alongside Bernard Arnault, CEO of the LVMH group, and Frank Gehry, the building’s architect. At the end of the ceremony, the three of them placed a hand on a digital tablet to trigger three flashes that briefly made the glass and steel wings sparkle. The French president called the “crystal palace” “a cloud of culture in the sky of Paris”. It is the Foundation’s aim to distil culture throughout the three levels of the museum and onto the terraces.
