A crossing of three breeds

The Norman breed is the result of the crossing-breeding of Cotentines cows (from Cotentin in Normandy), Augeronnes, and Cauchoises. It acquired its red and white brindle coat and a bigger corpulence thanks to the Augeronne (originally from Scotland) around 1730. The Cauchoise brought the breed better dairy capacities and lengthened its head a little. Today, the cow is an emblem of Normandy and its dairy products such as Camembert.
