A crater lake surrounded by woods

Lake Pavin is a crater lake mainly supplied with water from springs located on its edges, which are surrounded by a thick forest and basalt rocks. It flows in the Couze Pavin stream. The tuff ring of the crater overlooking the lake from 98 ft (30 m) is wooded with pines, beeches, and spruces. Its eastern edge is accessible by car via the Fraux Mountain tourist route, and a footpath allows hikers to walk around it in about an hour.
