A craft requiring gentleness
0
0
Robert Marichy, a master woodturner in Arinthod for more than 74 years, says that the art of woodturning lies in the hands, the eyes, and the head. One needs gentleness when digging with the gouge, and the hands of Robert Marichy, mostly spared by damage, show that he has been able to use it. As he creates, his gaze does not leave the piece of wood he is sculpting. He watches for the slightest of its reaction and always keeps in mind the final result he has conceived in his head. The wood sometimes decides otherwise, and Robert Marichy has to adapt.
