A craft imagined for pilgrims
0
0
The first Jura wood workshops were created in the 5th century in the Saint-Claude region, where an abbey attracted many pilgrims. The peasants quickly thought about crafting them objects of piety in local wood. They worked the wood in the winter and delivered their production in the spring. Until the 1950s, they were paid by the piece according to an industrial logic that required safe movements and sharp tools as time meant money.
