A city rebuilt by Auguste Perret

It took 14 days and a deluge of bombs for the Allies to overcome the German defense in Le Havre in September 1944. Faced with a refusal to capitulate, 348 English planes dropped 1,820 tons of explosive bombs and 30,000 incendiary bombs on the southwest of the city. The east suffered 1,458 tons of explosive bombs and 12,500 incendiary bombs. Auguste Perret and his team were entrusted with rebuilding Le Havre in a modern post-war style dominated by concrete. The ensemble, built over 328 acres (133 ha), is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage for its innovative post-war architecture.
